Are DIY Air Conditioning Repairs a Bad Idea?

In recent years, “do-it-yourself” projects have increased in popularity, leaving homeowners to do remodeling projects, baking projects, and much more on their own. This is usually very financially beneficial, and it’s easy to see why you’d be tempted to handle anything on your own for that reason.

However, the one place you don’t want to have a “DIY fail” is with repairing your HVAC system. Sure, fixing your air conditioning system on your own can save you a few bucks, but what if you do it incorrectly? Then there’s a very good possibility you’ll be calling us very soon anyway for emergency repairs or even a system replacement.

DIY Is Not Always the Best Choice

You’ve probably had success before fixing things around the home. Perhaps you’ve been able to tighten up a plumbing joint to fix a leak, or done some minor construction during a remodeling project. But fixing an air conditioning system is simply not that easy.

Our air conditioning technicians go through years of training and ensure the proper licensing to do the work required for these jobs. And truthfully, that training is never complete as there are constantly new systems and techniques introduced that we are invested in staying on top of.

Also, air conditioning systems change. If you find some instructions online, it may be from years ago and not applicable to the system you have on your property. If you do one thing wrong while trying to seal a leak or replace an electrical component, you can cause permanent damage to your compressor, forcing you to replace the entire air conditioner.

Remember, it’s perfectly alright to ask for help! That’s what our team is here for. Plus, you’ll probably save money this way anyway, since you won’t have to worry about purchasing the right tools or making a mistake while trying to repair your AC issue.
