“Why Won’t My Heat Pump Switch Modes?”

Monday, December 3rd, 2018

white question mark on blue circle with white backgroundFurnaces have been the traditional mode of heating for homes throughout the country for years now, and for good reason. However, heat pumps are becoming more and more common, due to the benefits that they offer the right homes. They provide two-in-one comfort for year-round use that manages your cooling needs in the summer and your heating needs in the winter.

Of course, if you’re reading this particular post, you probably already have a heat pump in place—one that won’t switch from cooling mode to heating mode. It should, ideally, automatically switch the direction it moves refrigerant so it brings heat into the home, rather than removing it, as soon as you switch modes. But, what if it doesn’t?

Help! One of the Units of My Ductless System Isn’t Working

Monday, November 5th, 2018

Closeup view about using some appliance such as air condition. There are a number of great benefits to using a ductless mini split to both heat and cool your home—high efficiency, zone control heating and cooling, less dust and dirt blown out due to the lack of air ducts, and versatility in installation.

One benefit that doesn’t get brought up that much is the fact that ductless systems use multiple air handlers, with individualized temperature control. These are small wall units placed in different rooms and areas of the home, rather than you using a single air handler for the whole-home. So when one unit, or rather one air handler, stops working, you don’t have to lose ALL your heating or cooling—just that one area.

ductwork being cleanedIf you’re anything like the average homeowners, chances are you don’t think very much about the ductwork snaking its way through your home. After all, these air ducts are hidden from sight, traveling through spaces between walls or through your attic space. Exposed ducts may be common in some types of commercial spaces, but it’s definitely not the norm in residential spaces.

This is something you should think about though. This is partly because ductwork that’s suffered damage will lead to poor heating and cooling performance, and a rise in your energy bills. For this, you will want to look into professional duct repair or sealing. Yet another factor to consider is the cleanliness of your air ducts. When is the last time you scheduled air duct cleaning in Sugar Land, TX?

What If Your Heat Pump Won’t Switch Modes?

Monday, February 12th, 2018

white question mark on blue circleIt’s not quite time to switch your heat pump from heating mode to cooling mode just yet, but that time will come soon enough. And when it does, you’ll want to easily adjust your heat pump system so that it begins cooling as effectively as it heated your home all winter long.

However, we can’t guarantee that your heat pump will work accurately every time, especially if you skipped your maintenance appointment (this tune-up should be scheduled twice a year for heat pumps) or if your heat pump is aging and is about ready for retirement. If either of these scenarios are the case, then you might find that warm or lukewarm air is coming through your vents still when you try to switch over to cooling mode.

If this is the case, you’ll want to call for professional Sugar Land, TX heat pump services right away. In the meantime though, we’d like to tell you what’s probably going on with your HVAC system.

It’s Never Too Early to Schedule AC Maintenance

Monday, January 29th, 2018

male technician working on outside unit of an air conditionerIn a place like Texas, it can be hard to keep an air conditioner in pristine condition, considering how much demand homeowners put on their systems. If you care for your cooling system properly, however, there’s no good reason it can’t work as efficiently and effectively as possible for as long as possible. Part of this care is ensuring you invest in routine Sugar Land, TX air conditioning maintenance.

One of the most common questions we get about maintenance is when the best time to schedule it is. Generally speaking, air conditioning maintenance should be scheduled before the system’s heaviest period of use, so in early spring. However, when you have your maintenance scheduled is not as important as how often you have the service completed. But why is preventive maintenance so necessary?

Does Your Ductless System Need Maintenance?

Monday, November 6th, 2017

hands adjusting air handler of a ductless systemBecause of how they look, ductless air conditioning and heating systems often get mistaken for window or portable air conditioning units. They do have many of the same components, but the configuration of the two is much different. Ductless systems, for instance, have an indoor unit and separate outdoor condenser. Due to their complexity, they necessitate extra care.

Taking care of your investment includes scheduling Sugar Land, TX HVAC maintenance for your ductless system on a regular basis. Because this is a heating and a cooling system in one, you should have this maintenance done twice a year—ideally once in spring to precede the cooling season and once in fall, before you need the heat. Keep reading to learn why ductless system maintenance is so essential!
